Funny...

Anna has been learning all of the verses of the song 'I am a Child of God' in Primary. The other day she was singing it around the house and this is what came out:
"I am a Child of God, and so my knees are straight..."
I was holding my laughs in as best as I could trying to explain to her that it goes:
"I am a Child of God, and so my needs are great..."

We are trying to teach Carly the difference between her left and her right. Last night I told her which was her left hand and which was her right. She then explained to me that her left hand used to be her right hand and vice versa. Clearly she thinks she can decide which is her left and which is her right and it changes frequently. Anna was laughing hysterically on the bed.

The other day Carly came to me and told me she wrote on the wall. After looking at the wall she told me she didn't even know the wall was there when she wrote on it, it just appeared. Wow... now that took some thought.

Seven Months

The Mac Man just keeps growing! He has now successfully mastered crawling backwards (we are still waiting on the forward.) He also has one tooth barely showing through. I know I am biased but he is such a cutie pie - we love him!

Happy 33 McKay!

McKay is the big 33! McKay and I have definitely reached the point in our lives where our kids are more excited for our birthdays than we are. Anna and Carly had been planning this since Christmas (their lives revolve around holidays and events.) In case you can't tell he had a golf cake. Very appropriate since he got to go golfing for the first time this year on his 33 birthday. Happy Birthday hon!

Road Rally

The Monday before the California primary we went to a busy intersection and showed our support for Mitt. Even though he didn't win, it felt great to be involved and rallying for someone we believe in. Even little Anna was doing her civic duty holding up a sign. Go Mitt 2012! :)

We have Garrett locked inside...

Carly and Anna had a lot of fun playing with the Fritz kids in Las Vegas. The especially loved playing with their way cool uncle Garrett. This was probably Garrett's favorite play session to date. He was behind these doors taking a nap, all the while getting credit with them that he was playing. Nice. They dictated this note to McKay to put on the door. What isn't shown is half of Brooke's pantry that is shoved under the door to keep Garrett from getting hungry. For those of you slightly hyperventilating when you see the stickers on these extremely nice wooden doors (like me!) they came off without a problem.

6 months and counting!

Our little Mac man is now 6 months old! He is growing up so fast! He loves to get up on his knees and rock back and forth. He will be crawling any day now! McKay is pretty sure he gets his muscular stamina from him since Mac can hold the airplane pose longer than any of our other kids. (If you have never tried it, it is NOT easy!) His favorite foods so far are applesauce and sweet potatoes (he doesn't get that from McKay.) He is super fun to have around and Anna and Carly think they are the funniest gals around since Mac will pretty much laugh at anything they do. I wasn't going to say it but I have to: Crazy how time flies!!!

Heat Exhaustion

It is that lovely time of year when the blessed stomach flu seems to makes its rounds through our house. This year it hit with a bang. Anna and Carly both woke up around 4 am yesterday throwing up. I am pretty sure they got it from the same place since they were throwing up within minutes of each other. Anna seemed to be affected most by it but both kids, hopefully, are on the road to recovery. After Anna threw up the first time McKay came back to bed and emphatically declared that Anna had heat exhaustion since it is so hot in our house. We have a slight difference in opinion about what the heater should be set to at night. The next morning we enjoyed a good chuckle when we realized (after the 10th throw up) that Anna didn't have heat exhaustion - in January - after all. We have since come up with a compromise that has worked pretty well the last couple of nights: 67 degrees.

Viva Mitt!

So this last weekend we were able to add to our life experiences. I wanted to go to Las Vegas for the weekend to help out with the Mitt Romney campaign but I felt bad to take off on a trip and leave Rachel and the children here while I went off to play. (if you call working on politics playing like I do) So one thing lead to another and I was able to go and bring the family. Thanks to my cousin Brooke, her husband Jeremy, and their family. The family stayed with the Fritz and I was gone most the time working on the campaign. The highlight moment happened Thursday night just as we arrived in town. Mitt came into town for a rally and we got to see him and hear him speak. I even made my way through a crowd of people to personally meet him after he spoke and with Anna and Carly on my shoulders we all met Mitt. When we were heading to Las Vegas I explained to Anna and Carly who Mitt Romney is; the next President of the United States. They were well rehearsed by the time we got to the rally so they did great and thought it was very cool to meet Mitt!

What made the trip even more fun was my political buddies Corrine came up with us and Garrett came down from Provo. Corrine and I called on the support of Dad and Alisa to run the office for a few days so we could take off. Garrett doesn't have Friday classes and as he reminded us throughout the weekend he lives off his wife bringing home the bacon so he just had to make sure he could take their only car and he was able to "come on down." Most of the time we spent at campaign HQ making calls to get people out to vote the next day, but we also did a little neighborhood canvasing too. We quickly realized the phones were much more effective.

The second biggest highlight was our assignment on the morning of the vote. Nevada had a Caucus which means that rather than having a polling location open all day where you just stop in and vote, you have a set time (in this case 9am on a Saturday) to show up and discuss the candidates and vote on delegates as well as the candidates. Most of the caucus locations where high school. Because a caucus is run by the party using volunteers at each location rather than the party setting up and controlling a "voting place" like you see in primaries and general elections there was a need for more supervision. Corrine, Garrett, and I were assigned a high school and we were the ONLY people there from the Romney campaign. WE REPRESENTED the campaign at that location. It was crazy how official we became when we put on our new Mitt Romney shirts. Everyone at our location thought we knew everything. We were getting feedback about the radio ads, which points Mitt should highlight on his stump speeches, why people were voting for Mitt, what other literature they got from other candidates, etc. It was quite a rush to be so involved in "the process." What might surprise many people is that very few of the volunteers working for Mitt are LDS. People act like he is the Mormon candidate but we certain saw first hand that he is not; he is a presidential candidate who is of the Mormon faith. Big difference! For me the highlight of the caucus was that one of my jobs as Team Captain at the caucus location was to certify the vote count. I watched everything being done. How ballots were being distributed, collected, and then counted. I even had to sign a paper showing I approved of everything, representing the Romney campaign. (Every campaign had the right to have someone there but most campaigns don't have enough staff to do it. Only Ron Paul had people at our location besides us.)

Well a big thanks goes out to Rachel for being a good sport and coming to Vegas for the weekend. She had a good time with Brooke and the children all loved playing with "new" cousins so she was definitely glad she came. Corrine got a reality check on road tripping in the Minivan with a young family. She still managed to get a little of her never ending projects done (knitting this time) but not much because the girls expected her to be paying attention to Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses and other such movies. Thanks again everyone!

And anyone reading this post - don't forget to make your voice heard and GET OUT TO VOTE! (you can make me happy by making your vote for Mitt - I really think we need a successful businessman to go in and clean up our national government and I think Mitt is the man to do it!)

Bowling

We took the kids bowling on Saturday morning. They had lots of fun. Good thing 'we were there for the kids' because McKay and I were quite rusty. At first Anna was more worried about the color of her ball than she was about bowling, but she soon realized that it didn't matter. She even used the 'yucky' green ball occasionally. And she was able to get a strike! Carly looking intently on. She hung in there for 9 frames!
